Talk It Over
Purposes Week 3: Jesus, The True Vine
Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s Bible story, Jesus, the True Vine, with your child after they’ve watched this week’s Church at Home elementary video. Remember that we were created to grow closer to God!
- What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
- What does it mean that God made you for a purpose?
“Purpose” is the reason something was created and made. God created us to be part of his special plan to love him and show other people his love, and one of the ways we do that is by growing closer to God. - What does it mean to grow closer to God?
We grow closer to God when we become more like him. That means we get to know him more by learning about him, and when we do that, it changes the way we think and live our lives the way God made us to. - What are some things a plant needs to grow? What are some things you need to grow closer to God?
Just like plants need water and sunlight to grow healthy and strong, followers of Jesus need things to grow healthy and strong and closer to him. Things like reading and studying the Bible, time with adults and friends who love Jesus, and talking to God through prayer all help us grow closer to him. - How can you “remain” – stick with God – like Jesus said in our Bible story?
You should try to do things that help you grow closer to God every day in order to remain close and stick with God. It’s not just something you do once or twice, you need to choose to do these things every day – even if you don’t feel like it. - What should you do if you don’t feel close to God?
Even when you don’t feel close to God or you don’t know if you’re growing, God still wants you to try. He is with you and you are growing when you stick with him. He is always waiting and excited for you to come to him, and even when you can’t feel it, he is closer to you than you could ever imagine! Keep growing in him by doing things like praying, reading your Bible, going to church, asking God questions, and learning about him every day. God is always working even when it doesn’t feel like it. He loves you so much.

Early Childhood Craft – Picture Me and Jesus
This week, your child will make and decorate a picture frame containing a photo they create of them with Jesus. This will remind them of their purpose to belong to God’s family!
Early Childhood Activity – Going Fishing
Using pipe cleaners to create fish and hook shapes, your child will love “fishing” from home! This activity reminds them of the Bible story, where Jesus invited Peter to belong to his family and fish for men.
