Talk It Over

Purposes: Parable Of The Three Servants

Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s Bible story, Parable of the Three Servants, with your child after they’ve watched this week’s Church at Home elementary video. Remember that we were created to serve God and his people!

  1. What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
  2. What does it mean that God made you for a purpose?
“Purpose” is the reason something was created and made. God created us to be part of his special plan to love him and show other people his love. One of the ways we do that is by serving God and his people!
  3. What does it mean to serve?
We serve by showing God’s love to others with the things we have, the words we say, and the things we do. God has given each person things they can use to help other people know they are loved by God.
  4. Have you ever served or helped someone? What did you do and how did it feel?
There are so many ways to serve! Big ways and small ways. And when we do serve, we can feel good knowing we are doing what God made us to do and fulfilling our purpose.
  5. What is something God has given you (like a talent, ability, or physical item) that you can use to help someone and “invest” in – like the servant in our Bible story – to serve God?
God gives us things, words, abilities, talents, and feelings to help us as we serve him and help his people. Maybe God made you to be very thoughtful, so you can practice thinking and praying for someone every day! Or maybe he made you really enjoy art or you are good at painting, so you make or paint cards or special notes for your neighbors and friends! If God made you good at a sport, you can help other kids who want to learn how to play but don’t know how. There are so many ways we can use the things God gives us to help others, and you can choose how you do that! So have fun discovering the unique way God made you and try to think of something good you can do for someone else so they know they are loved by God.
  6. What should you do if you feel afraid or nervous to serve?
It can be scary to talk to other people or do something new, but remember that God created you for this purpose! He made you and prepared you to be able to serve, and he will be with you every step of the way. You can always talk to him about your fears or questions through prayer, too.
