Talk It Over
Christmas: The Shepherds Visit Jesus
Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s Bible story about The Shepherds with your child after they’ve watched this week’s Church at Home elementary video. Remember that we can tell Jesus’ story!
- What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
- What happened after the shepherds met baby Jesus?
They went and told people about who Jesus was and what they had seen. They saw something so amazing – the Savior they had been waiting for – that they couldn’t help but go and tell others about it! - What does it mean to tell Jesus’ story?
When you tell Jesus’ story, you talk about who Jesus is and what he did on Earth. God sent Jesus to Earth as a baby on Christmas so that he could grow up, invite people to follow him, and then die and come back to life to save us – that’s what we celebrate on Easter. That’s the Good News you can tell others! - Who are some people you can tell about Jesus?
You can tell anyone you meet about Jesus! There are lots of people who have never even heard about Jesus. Think about people in your family, your friends, kids at school or on a team with you, or even someone who works at the grocery store or coffee shop you visit with your family! - What are some ways you can tell Jesus’ story?
Of course you can tell Jesus’ story by talking to people and telling them what happened in the Bible, but there are lots of other ways to tell Jesus’ story, too – especially at Christmas! You can bake cookies for your neighbor and include a note that shares the real reason we celebrate Christmas: Jesus is born! Or you can show someone a Christmas craft you made at church and even invite them to go to or watch church with you. You can write down a verse from the Bible – like Luke 2:10-11 – on a note and drop it off on your neighbors’ porches. There are so many ways to make sure everyone knows about Jesus and what happened at the first Christmas! - Luke 2:10-11 says, “But the angel reassured them. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ‘I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the City of David.’” What does this verse say will happen when the Good News is shared with others?
It will bring great joy to all the people! The story of Jesus is for us to tell so everyone will hear.
