God's Promises Week 3: Jesus Calms The Storm
Hey parents! This week your child learned that God promises to give them a purpose when life feels meaningless. They heard the Bible story Jesus Calls Matthew, too! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s lesson after they’ve watched the video service!
- What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
- What happened when Jesus asked Matthew to get up and follow him?
He got up immediately. Matthew didn’t ask questions or even grab his things, because he knew Jesus offered something even better than he could imagine. Jesus offered Matthew a fresh start when he turned away from his old life – the life of making bad choices. Jesus showed him his purpose and Matthew was excited to be a part of it. - What did Matthew do with his new purpose he found because of Jesus?
He told lots of other people about Jesus’ love and forgiveness. He even wrote a book in the Bible, called Matthew, that we read today. Because he chose to follow Jesus, he was able to fulfill God’s purpose for his life – to share God’s love with everyone. - What are some things you like to do and that you are good at?
You’re right! I think you’re good at ________, too. God made you good at those things so that they can be used for the things God made you to do and be a part of your purpose. The special gifts and abilities you have are from God, and he wants you to use them for him, too. - How can you use your special gifts and abilities to tell people about God?
Those are great ideas. God wants you to use the things he made you good at to share his love with others. That’s part of your purpose! He has good plans for you, and part of that plan is using you to share his love. - Our memory verse, Hebrews 6:19, says, “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” How does the Bible story Jesus Calls Matthew give you hope?
It reminds us that God has a purpose for our lives. Even when things feel meaningless or we don’t like how things are going, God is at work. He is always working to bring more people into his family, and he wants your help to do that! Your purpose is the plan God has for you to be a part of his work.
Take some time to pray as a family. Thank God for his promise that he will give you a purpose when life feels meaningless. Ask him to show you ways you can use the gifts and abilities God gave you to show other people his love.
