God's Promises Week 4: God Is With Us
Hey parents! This week your child learned that God promises to forgive them when they feel guilty. They heard the Bible story about Jesus and the Sinful Woman, too! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s lesson after they’ve watched the video service!
- What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
- What did people think of the woman in the Bible story?
They called her a sinner because she made bad choices. They didn’t like her or think that she deserved to be around Jesus. - What did Jesus think of the woman?
He loved her! It didn’t matter to Jesus that the woman had sinned. He showed his love for her when he forgave her of her sins. She was sorry for what she did, and she chose to show Jesus that she loved him, too. - What does it mean to feel guilty? When is a time you felt guilty?
Guilt is the feeling that comes when you know you did something wrong or when you get caught making a bad choice. But Jesus has forgiven you for that bad choice by dying on the cross for you! Have you ever prayed to ask God to forgive you because you believe in Jesus and want Him to be the Lord of your life?* - What should you do when other people do something wrong or hurt your feelings?
You can forgive them! Just like Jesus forgave the sinful woman, he wants us to forgive other people, too. If they ask for forgiveness or if you feel like you should forgive them, you can tell them you forgive them by writing them a note, telling them in person, or even by calling them on the phone.. - Our memory verse, Hebrews 6:19, says, “This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.” How does the Bible story Jesus and the Sinful Woman give you hope?
It reminds us that God has forgiven us through his son, Jesus. When we ask for forgiveness, he forgets about what we’ve done. He still loves us no matter what choices we make. We can have hope that he will stick to his promise and love us and forgive us when we ask no matter what.
Take some time to pray as a family. Thank God for his promise that he will always forgive us, even when we feel guilty and make bad choices. Ask him to help us forgive others when they do something that hurts our feelings, too.
