A Prayer to Love God More

There’s a moment at the start of the movie Up that’s always stayed with me. Two people build a life together without grand speeches. They live in quiet, steady rhythms. Their choices show what they love. That picture gets under my skin. It makes me wonder what the reel of my own life would reveal.

If someone pressed play on my story, what would they see? Scenes from movies I love. Road trips to theme parks. Game nights, family dinners, and everyday moments that never made a headline. But what would those moments say about what shaped my heart? Did they point me toward God, or simply fill my time?

I’ve learned that love is revealed in what I give myself to, not just what I say. Jesus commands, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength” (Mark 12:30). Lord, let your love shape me so I can Love like Jesus.

Love Starts With God

Love begins with God, not with my effort. He loved me first and poured that love into my ordinary days. When I turn toward Scripture and prayer, God removes the veil that blinds. My love grows because His love reaches me.

I cannot love God without knowing Him. Reading the Gospels helps me see His character. Trust grows when I obey what I see. That rhythm softens my heart and produces steady love.

A Four-Move Prayer

Try this ten-minute practice to refocus your love and attention.

  • Heart: Ask God to direct your love. Confess idols and give Him the first part of your day.
  • Soul: Surrender your plans and fears. Say, “I give you my life.”
  • Mind: Read a short passage. Ask God to renew your thoughts and meditate on one verse.
  • Strength: Choose one practical step today that proves your love in action.

Love shows itself in steady choices, not in big declarations. Small, faithful steps shape a life. Pick one concrete step this week and tell a friend. Ask them to check in. We act, and our love grows.
