Open your life to others
Many people in Mill City live busy, private lives. We go to work, pick up kids, and close the door. God did not build His church to live apart. He built it to live near. Opening a home breaks isolation. It gives room for comfort, correction, and prayer.
Paul writes, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality” (Romans 12:13, NIV). It’s clear, God commands His people to meet needs with open hands and open homes.
In fact, every act of welcome carries an unseen blessing. “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it” (Hebrews 13:2, NIV).
The first believers, in Acts 2:46, even turned shared meals into shared joy. The fact is, hospitality is simple. God’s people see a need, move toward it, and bring comfort.
Act when you see a need
One afternoon, I was in my backyard when I heard a hard thud next door, and it didn’t sound good. My neighbor, an older man, had tripped while going inside his home. I ran around my house to his front door and went in. He was on the ground, shaken and unable to get up. I called my son, and together we lifted him into his chair. But we didn’t leave. We stayed and visited with him and his wife.
I invited them to our home later, and they came and sat with us in the backyard, and we visited. The conversation was light and full of laughter. That simple moment turned neighbors into friends. Hospitality begins when we notice and continues when we invite.
We often think we need time, money, or a spotless home to show hospitality. We don’t. A meal, a chair, and a listening ear are enough. Invite a widow, a young couple, or a lonely neighbor to your table. Teach your children that when an adult enters your home, they should stop what they are doing and greet them. Those simple acts show value and respect for others.
Remember who you represent
Hospitality is not about a perfect home; it’s about a heart that moves toward others. When we open our doors, God opens hearts. Start this week. Step toward someone who needs both help and company, and God will meet you there.
