Why We Are Hosting a Church BBQ in Mill City

As the Mill City Christian Church pastor, I’ve witnessed firsthand how our community comes together in both good times and challenging ones. Living in a small town like Mill City, where everyone knows everyone, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of events that bring us closer—not just as neighbors, but as a family united in Christ.

I remember not too long ago when our community was shaken by the wildfires. I saw neighbors helping each other rebuild, and in those moments, I realized how God works through our relationships, and this BBQ continues that spirit—a chance to share a meal and remind each other that we are a family in Christ.

As it says in Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” This BBQ is our way of living out this command, encouraging one another in love and good deeds.

Building Relationships

Mill City is a place where relationships matter. Whether it’s chatting with a neighbor on First Street or catching up with friends at 7Star Grocery, our connections define us. But sometimes, life gets busy, and we lose touch with those around us. Hosting a BBQ provides a relaxed, informal setting where church members and neighbors can reconnect.

A game of cornhole at a BBQ isn’t just about the game; it’s about getting to know your neighbors. I encourage you to reach out to someone new as you come to the BBQ. Maybe there’s a neighbor you haven’t spoken to in a while or a coworker who needs encouragement. Bring them along—this is a perfect opportunity to share the love of Christ through simple fellowship.

Sharing Our Faith and Hospitality

One of the things I love most about Mill City is our spirit of hospitality. We open our homes, share our meals, and look out for each other. Our BBQ is a natural extension of this hospitality. It provides an inviting atmosphere where we can reach out to those who might not yet be part of our church family because barbecue isn’t just about food; it’s about fellowship.

It’s a time to come together, recognize God’s presence in one another, and strengthen our bonds as a church family. Through this event, we are living out our mission to serve and support our neighbors, providing light and hope to those who need it most. As Jesus said, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20).

Creating Memories That Last

mill City BBQI’ve always believed that some of the best memories are made around a shared meal. Whether it’s the laughter of children playing, the warmth of a friendly conversation, or the simple joy of a well-cooked hotdog, these moments stay with us. Events like a BBQ do more than fill our plates; they fill our hearts and create lasting memories that strengthen our community.

When we come together as a church, we bless those present and bear witness to God’s goodness for all to see. These memories are the glue that holds our community together, making Mill City not just a place to live but a place to call home.

Our upcoming BBQ reflects our church’s mission to build relationships, share our faith, and serve our neighbors. As we gather, let’s remember that we’re not just sharing food but also sharing the love of Christ. I challenge you to invite your family, friends, and neighbors to come by so they, too, can experience the warmth and fellowship that make Mill City Christian Church unique.
